Birmingham Airport scoops the Routes Europe Marketing Award with a little help from RBH

RBH Creative Communications’ campaign ‘At the Centre of Your World’ helps Birmingham Airport scoop the Routes Europe 2017 Marketing Award, in the 4-20m passenger category.

The campaign was created to raise awareness of Birmingham Airport within the global aviation and tourism markets and positioned the airport at the centre of its clients’ businesses.

Building on the existing ‘Hello World’ brand proposition, the campaign launched last September at World Routes Global Forum 2016, hosted in Sichuan Province, China.

Birmingham Airport beat off stiff competition from Warsaw, Budapest, Cologne, Marseille and Larnaca Airport after impressing a panel of senior airline executives.

Steven Small, brand director, Routes, added: “Congratulations to Birmingham Airport on winning the award. It’s not surprising due to the dedication and enthusiasm of the team, and the creativity and hard work put into the submission.”

The campaign created by RBH, and instrumental to the win, was centred around a brand film, showcasing the airport and its facilities, the airlines, the wider West Midlands region and future potential. In addition to the brand film, the campaign utilised a number of channels to maximise engagement for the event including; trade press, brochures, online advertising, exhibition panels, DM and delegate promotions (in both English and Mandarin).

The campaign ensured Birmingham Airport received the recognition for the outstanding marketing services that have supported the development of existing or new routes.

Paul Kehoe, Birmingham Airport, chief executive, said: “I’m delighted for the team on receiving this accolade which has recognised our airline marketing campaigns as well as business development and sales activities over the last year. The team has explored innovative new ways to engage with global audiences through traditional and new marketing channels and they should feel very proud of this award, as do I.”

Natalie Griffiths, agency partner at RBH, adds: “It’s fantastic that the campaign has helped Birmingham Airport receive such positive praise and recognition within the industry. It reflects the dedication of the team at Birmingham Airport and the great work by the team here at RBH, as Paul Kehoe has noted, the teams involved should feel very proud of the award and work”.
